Project description:

Gertrude Bien Aime Azor runs St Joseph's Creche, an orphanage now taking care of 14 children all under the age of 8 years old. Gertrude served as a nun for eight years with the Missionaries of Charity and Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres. After leaving the religious life, she worked with handicapped children at Notre Maison orphanage, directed a Christian school and oversaw 'Scholarship Solay', a program for families in Cite Soleil, the world's poorest slum, and directed a sewing program for women.
In 2007 there was a terrible flood in Port au Prince and Gertrude opened the doors of the sewing school building to approximately 50 people, giving them shelter and food. After two weeks when the people had left, there were 5 children that had been abandoned. This is how St Joseph's started. Sadly the project has grown, due to the amount of children that are abandoned on the street. Gertrude opens her doors to these children and now has 14 children (all between the ages of 8months and 8 years old). In addition she runs Notre Maison an orphanage for disabled children.
